Information:
The BBC series Inspector Montalbano (made by the Italian TV company Rai as Il Commissario Montalbano) is full of stunning Sicilian locations, from sweeping views to picturesque corners and lanes. The original Montalbano books, by Andrea Camilleri, are set in fictional locations. However, the TV series moved the setting eastwards across Sicily, and it is mostly filmed around Ragusa Ibla town, Scicli, Noto and Modica.

Castello Donna Fugata- Donna Fugata Castle. One of Montalbano’s greatest nemeses was the boss of Mafia Balduccio Sinagra, whose magnificently luxurious residence is Castello di Donnafugata. It is the 19th century home of Baron Corrado Arezzo de Spuches, located 18km west of Ragusa and is open to the public.

Inspector Montalbano is lucky enough to wake up every morning in his seafront house with a tall lighthouse in “Marinella”, which is the small village of Punta Secca. His house is now a bed and breakfast called La Casa di Montalbano. The little square where the building is located is now rechristened as Piazza Montalbano. Nearby there is a restaurant with a seafront terrace, where Montalbano occasionally enjoys a seafood lunch.

Donna Lucata is the natural harbour of Scicli. This renowned tourist destination with fine sandy beaches is embraced by a clear turquoise sea and a romantic waterfront. The police station in “Vigata” is the town hall of Scicli, located in the beautifully conserved baroque street of Via Mormino Penna. The mayor's real-life office (the Stanza del Sindaco) is used in the series too, as the Questore's office, and it can sometimes be visited by the public.

Modica is yet another glorious baroque town rebuilt, like Scicli and Ragusa, after the earthquake of 1693. It is also renowned for the typical chocolate, still produced today with the recipe of the ancient Aztecs.
